The Year That Was is a MultiMedia Database covering the past six decades of the American Experience. A nosgalic trip through the years in text, pictures, sounds, music and videos. A retro journey capturing the feel of each decades year by year. The Sixties are finished, the Seventies are a work in progress with work to soon begin on the Fifties, Eighties, Nineties and Naught's.
As work progressed on this project it soon became apparent that the cultural decades did not coincide with the numerical ones. The Fifties - defined as the time of television and Rock & Roll span the longest period from the late 1940's to the early 1960's. The Sixties, the time of Vietnam, Hippies and political upheaval bled well into the 1970's. The Seventies - coined the Me Decade - were rather short and are remembered for disco music and liesure suits. |
